Is it possible to have a fresh start in Life?
Examine your life.
The purpose of examining your life is not to regret or for self-blame. You’ve already realized your life is in big trouble and it needs some major fix. The purpose is to extract lessons from your own life that can help you to move on:
- Identify key elements from your past that lead you to that wrong direction.
- Ask yourself how did you arrive at where you are now?
Your present situation must have started somewhere sometime. Examining your life will help you to process the real issue as you navigate through your past. The purpose is to question yourself who you were, why you made the choices that messed up your life, and what is the most efficient way for you to get on the road you want to be back on once again. Examining the past is not a simple task. Some memories are painful. You might need professional help in such cases. However, be honest and realistic as you examine your life. Remember, the purpose is to dig for truth. The truth that made you go off track, messed up your thinking and destroyed your vision.
Close the door to the past. Most people still live in their past. Until you let go off your past you cannot make any fresh start. However, letting go off your past, whatever that is, will not be easy but it’s not impossible. Instead of denying or covering up your past go ahead and look at it, but without judgment. Look at it, express it, admit it, acknowledge it, accept it, and move on. In other words, let your past become something that is simply a matter of fact. That’s all.
“Express your disappointment, your regret, your anger, and then LET IT GO! If you don’t, you will continue to draw to you the very events that you are still resenting or regretting”.
I read somewhere that, “every saint has a past and every sinner has a future.” That is absolutely true. To be able to live out of ‘the past’ is to be able to be ‘out of a prison’. Both situations make us hopeless and helpless. Both have such a controlling power that makes us powerless, worthless, and paralyzes our dignity and humanness. No matter what happened in the past we need to close the door and open a new chapter. We need to learn to live in the present and hope for a better future. Paul in Philippians 3: 13 says, “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead.”

We are entering a new week, and yes it is possible to have fresh start in life! You can’t change the past, you can’t turn the clock back but you can do something for today and your future. Have a blessed week!

Dear Funmi, My heart breaks reading your story but I am comforted that the One who Restores will visit you soon. Put your mind on God and His word that is the way to perfect peace in tough times. No matter how far gone your trials have been, trust in God, don’t waver, believing that the Lord is going to turn your captivity and fill your mouth with laughter and your tongues with praise. Don’t give up Sis, don’t give up. Remember the thief does not steal from an empty house, you are destined for greatness that is why the devil attacks but God will Restore.
